This is not a place for a liberal-minded person to flourish or develop as an individual. Sexism and racism were all to common. 2.5 years into my degree, I left because I didn't have a friend who didn't worship Donald Trump. I was disturbed and I left the school for that reason. As a female engineering student, my male peers had no respect for me. I was ignored during group activities which hindered my learning experience - especially during robotics and computer programming projects. I felt uncomfortable with the lack of diversity. In a classroom of 200 people I could spot one or two black people (guaranteed to be male). Everyone was kind outwardly, but if anyone would venture on to the anonymous social media app, Yik Yak, he would find true racism and disregard for respect of anyone other than a white male.

Any of my friends in organizations were subject to hazing, including those in the Corp of Cadets.

On the other hand, I was challenged and given many opportunities as a student at A&M. My professors were great, and usually foreign which brought an international perspective to my education.

Hope you are doing better, at a school with a strong Society for Women Engineers chapter. We need more engineers from all walks of life. Go get 'em.

Never let anyone, regardless of gender or skin-tone, stop you from your goals. These are just some closed-minded people out there who believe the entire earth revolves around them and them alone. The planet is much bigger than that.

From one STEM student to another.

Hazing is also illegal due to the harassment and deaths it can caused. If anyone of your friends were socially pressured into hazing just to join a club then that needs to be documented and turned in.

It is illegal and those students have every-right not to be forced to be in inhumane treatment to join a circle club. The A&M Cadets should be ashamed of themselves and know better standards.

I would also add that our University never sought out to worhip President Trump. That's not what we did. If you drove around the country in 2008 , listened to all the bullshit lies Barry and nis elect Obama people ponied up, you could see why Students of ant and every ethnicity would be excited about a President and leader who was able and competent for teh responsibility. I'm sure you had a problem with Sarah palin also and could never figur eout whyy you may have. All good to suggest somethings about the University and curriculums that could be improved and used, shame on you to be so worldly and ncoorect about et al all.

Interesting. I'm also a female student from a STEM career such as CS and I understand the bumps and hinges that can happen due to the boy's club mentality and of course, the racism that is subjected to others through online media outlets such as Yik Yak and Reddit.
