ELON COLLEGE IS A TRADEGY… |
Major: Business - Management and Administration (This Major's Salary over time)
This school looks like everything is in working condition, but there are A LOT of dysfunctional things happening here behind the scenes. Social life consumes everyone who is in a greek organization, and since Thursday night is a party night here, classes on Friday mornings are usually only half attended. The professors usually aren't professors at all, and most seem like they are unqualified to teach - powerpoints straight from the book and cookie-cutter presentations are the norm in the business school. Beyond that, no one talks in classes, and most students seem to only want to do the bare minimum (C's get degrees is an ethos here). Other aspects of the social climate at Elon include a lot of drugs. Most people do drugs (at least in greek life), and most have enough money to sustain a real drug habit. The health center supports this by taking care of any drug-related sicknesses and injuries by being a short walk from most residences. The social experience here could be described as a zero-sum game: most of the time, people are not looking out for your best interests, and sometimes, they'll even aide you in your own destruction. Friends at Elon aren't there to help you; they're there to look good with you on Instagram and increase your social standing. There's a huge divide between greeks and non-greeks, and since the vast majority of the parties are thrown off-campus by fraternities, you're considered a nobody (especially boys) if you don't get into one. Despite all these things, Elon still functions pretty well, which really does amaze me. I would have transferred, but I realized most of these things too late.
