I lived in Texas my whole life, mostly in South Texas. Austin is supposed to be diverse. A recent incident near UT on Dec. 6, 2015, reinforces my belief that people here can be close minded. People are divided on politics. I've never witnessed anyone change their mind on politics. Maybe, I don't get out much. But I would not talk politics unless you want to sacrifice your marketability for a cause.I believe that some of the most open minded and intelligent people of the world live here. But anywhere, there seems to be the lowest denominator that crosses a spectrum of economic backgrounds. I'm in my 40's now. Where ever you are, you need to mentally brace yourself for the next incident to happen to you. Your rose tinted glasses will turn to amber. If I had to do it again, I'd go to junior college for academic, social and financial reasons. The place is so big. If you can deal with the academic attributes of a big school, I believe the academic programs here are good. If you are well prepared and have a good study habit someone can be happy here. Otherwise, I'd recommend community college. The people there are more friendly, less stuck up. Students in Junior colleges are more inclined to work in study groups like a jogging club. In UTA, they are more independent and competitive like a marathon race.I happen to drive by a anti Iraq war gathering on main street in Houston. Only one person standing. People in the USA live in a bubble. They are brainwashed. Expect what you would hear the media to say regurgitated by someone.
