I attended CofC my freshman year, and although on paper it was the perfect school and I loved many things about it, I never adjusted fully and transferred. First the good things:
  • Beautiful campus in the heart of Charleston, I love this city, very safe and a very young city.
  • HOT girls. Everywhere. And with the warm weather, they are usually wearing little clothing.
  • Beautiful weather ( I'm from upstate NY, as far as I'm concerned "winter" never happens in Charleston.)
  • Nice facilities, many new and renovated buildings and the library is about as nice as you could ever imagine a library being.
  • Now the bad:

the students here resemble a kind of gentile southern collection of frat-boys, and sorority girls. Although there are many out of state students and people of different backgrounds, everyone seems to embrace this culture which seems great if you really think you'd fit in with it. I had trouble finding a group of friends although i participated in clubs and met many people, and almost joined a frat when I got a bid, but at over $1000 for membership fees, its safe to say you're pretty well off if you're a member. I'd rather not have to buy into friendships, nothing against frats and sororities I have many friends who joined and love them.

Not much school spirit ( no football team) although basketball games do bring some spirit.

Parking : HORRENDOUS not available to freshman and expensive both on and off campus ( I paid $125 - 150 per MONTH). Not to say that you need a car here, you can pretty much walk everywhere, and its a short walk to king street and all it has to offer from bars to restaurants, shopping etc. A car is nice for going to the beach which is maybe a 15 min drive.

  • Many uptight spoiled girls at this school, and most ( not all, but most I met) of the students are heavy drinkers (and/or stoners) ( not really different compared to other schools I guess).
  • I will say I had bad luck when I was there, and prob met the worst people who attend cofc. But I did meet many great people too. I thought though, overall the relatively large student body didn't really foster much of a community between students. Again, I had many great experiences at this school, and at the same time it didn't fit me. Out of state tuition and fees were too much and i went to a smaller school with scholarship in state. There are many cliques at this school as there are at any school and if you decide to go, you'll probably be fine.
