Please here me out. I'm a senior in high school. Yes, high school. I'm from New York and I am not exaggerating at any part of this review. I don't want anyone to make the same mistake I did. I was invited down to UT for a recruiting trip as an athlete. I was very excited, having been offered a decent scholarship academically, and hoping to enjoy the warm weather. Well, when I got to Tampa and pulled up to the school, I was nothing but disappointed. The school is SMALL, and I mean small. It sits on a river, which is nice…The city of Tampa is an absolute ghost town. It is deserted, run-down, and full of homeless people. The stores are small businesses that look old and worn-out. I was AMAZED by how the acceptance letter's package advertises the city with big bright lights, like a bustling city with tons to do. The outside of the school is a GHETTO. There are bars on everyone's shack of a house. It was disgusting and quite frightening. I looked into the local police and crime rate to learn that the area has daily violent crimes, robberies (sometimes armed). Total shithole of a town for the lack of better words. Oh, and the school is surrounded by rusty train tracks. Anyway, I met with admissions in their main building. The main building is the only nice building on campus. I met with a counselor who was a total moron. He treated me like I was lucky to be accepted to their "wonderful school". He told me at this rate I was to be dorming in the Howard Johnson hotel, a block away from the school in the ghetto because I didn't do my deposit immediately. After I left with this guy, I went back to my hotel and called the prospective coach who was recruiting me. I told him I was highly disappointed with the school and won't be attending my visit the next day. I was honest and said the city and school is advertised like shit and it is nothing like the way it seems. It was unbelievable. You have to drive probably twenty miles until you get into a decent area. Please, don't make the same mistake I did. I didn't even make it to a recruiting trip…how do you think you will last four years in this dump?
