Major: Undecided (This Major's Salary over time)
Naturally, I perceived my experience at the College of Charleston to be similar to what I had heard from everyone that had gone there/guidance counselors. I only wish that I had researched more into student's reviews like these. As every review written before me states, Charleston surely has astounding beauty. The campus and women alike are extremely easy on the eyes, but I've found that theres much more to a college experience than that. I know you're probably taking every review with a grain of salt, as you should…but head my warning; the social life there can break even the most hardened spirit. I feel horrible for a lot of the girls, not only for the ratio, but because of the immaturity and general lack of respect for the women at the college. I've seen situations where a casual conversation ensues at a party between a guy and girl, then the girl casually brings her boyfriend into the convo only to have the guy do an about-face and leave without even saying so much as goodbye. Thats NOT everyone though. The college claims that only about a third of the school is involved in greek life, but trust me, it feels like nearly 90%. The parties are always open to girls, but no guys can get into parties. The frats wont let in one male even if theres literally a 5:1 ratio of girls to guys in the party. In the north, nobody does this frat/sorority thing. I'll never join one…Its not my thing. I don't appreciate being told what to do by some idiot who gets amusement from the misfortune of others. I often found myself wandering around the city during first semester, looking for a party that would let a guy in. In every party theres a $5 fee, and none are that fun. The beach is a great aspect of the school but its not exactly right next door…the traffic can make it a 30min-1hr ride. Don't get me wrong, the women are gorgeous, but extremely fake and ditzy…and I mean FAKE. Yeah, maybe there is such a thing as southern hospitality, but its just superficial fake smiles that vanish the moment you turn around. If you're not from South Carolina, you'll find it even harder to fit in. I didn't really enjoy my time at Charleston…that comes from an optimistic person too. If you're from South Carolina, I don't doubt you'll have a great time here. I'm from the north, and I find difficulty in letting the anti-northern and anti-accepting sentiment slide past me. So basically, if you're not into greek life…it'll be hard to find a place to party. Theres always the bars and clubs, but make sure you get a decent ID. O'Malleys gets raided by police a 2-3 times a month. Since I'm not from around there and I'm not wealthy enough to afford the expensive restaurants/places you can go around the city, i found myself feeling trapped in a city that seemed extremely self-absorbed. Think twice, or three, or four times before deciding to attend this overly-hyped college.
