Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
I'm currently a sophomore at UT in the College of Education. When I decided to go to Toledo it was based on all the scholarship money I received (which wasn't difficult considering how low their standards are). There is not one day that goes by that I don't regret going to UT over Xavier or University of Kentucky. TThe University treats their students like statistics and takes your money and runs with it. First day of my freshman year I had to park on the grass because parking is so horrendous, especially if you are a commuter student. I got back to my car after class and found a parking ticket stuck to my windshield. After spending over an hour on the phone with a very unhelpful UT faculty member I still had to pay the $35 ticket. They are incredibly disorganized and they lose every piece of paperwork you could possibly imagine.I feel incredibly unsafe on campus. I receive regular UT Alerts through my e-mail about recent crimes that have taken place on campus. I have no choice but to carry around pepper spray and there have been times where I felt I would have to use it. This is really sad because UT has the money to make the campus safer but all they care about are building sports facilities for our craptastic football team and putting MAC computers in every building. NEWS FLASH: having fancy technology doesn't make your students do well. Here's an idea: Stop accepting people who don't deserve to go to the university (91% acceptance rate!) and then maybe we won't be a tier 4 school anymore! As a student of the College of Education I have watched as UT funnels its money into the medical college and the engineering school. The Edu. school has the potential to do great things but it won't happen when all the money is being spent elsewhere. I am working on a concentration in Social Studies and I cannot fulfill any of my course requirements because UT doesn't have the money to offer the classes I need and they can't afford to add more sections of classes. I've had to sign up for classes at a community college because UT can't offer me the classes that THEY say I need to graduate… that's saying something.
