The General Education program is a very useful program and requires students to leave their normal area of study to take courses in other areas. However, this program is not an easy program and can be difficult for many students. If there is a course that you want to take but you think will be challenging but you don't want it to bring down your GPA, consider the pass/fail rules. American University is becoming more and more competitive to get into so if you get in, make sure you come to campus and take a good look around and a look at academic programs before you look elsewhere. The extracurriculars are outstanding, with intramurals, 100s of clubs, religious activities, Greek Life, etc. 95% of faculty/staff are accessible and helpful. Technology has made communication between professors and students much more streamlined. A majority of students will communicate via Blackboard or email. The internship opportunities, the athletics (Division 1), the study abroad program, the community feel, and much more makes American University one of the best places to study in the country and world.
