Umass Amherst helped me in so many ways. Because it is a big college, you have to learn how to put yourself out there whether it be making friends or seeking out your professor for help or advice when in a 200+ class. The school taught me how to find my voice and speak up.

The professors in the English department were always nice and willing to spend time out of class to assist me. Senior year, I decided that I wanted to do an independent study focusing on the skills which I needed for my future career and asked an English professor to be my advisor. Although she had plenty on her plate, being a well respected professor in the English department and Commonwealth program, she agreed. I credit that independent study with getting me my job which I have today.

I really can't say enough about how much I enjoyed my time at Umass Amherst. I loved living in Central with all the "hippies." I found out that these kids weren't all about smoking pot but real social issues.

Overall, I loved Umass Amherst and would go back in a heartbeat.
