If you want to do well at Cornell, plan on spending your nights and weekends working diligently to maintain high standing. Cornell's Animal Science Department is VERY competitive because of the Vet program. If you are planning on vet school, my suggestion is to go elsewhere for you undergrad then transfer into the DVM program. I wanted to breed exotic (endangered) animals, but there are few courses for exotics so I transfered into another department.

I waited 16 years before going back to school. Make sure you are going because YOU want to go. If you're not really sure what you want to do, then shadow a few professionals whose careers you may be interested in. Or go into the workforce and find what piques your passion, and then pursue your dreams. Higher education is NOT cheap. Make sure you are doing this because YOU want to do it and not because your parents are making you. I know at 18 I had no idea what I wanted to do or who I was…all I knew is that I promised myself I would go back to school…and I did!!

Also, don't go to a school just because of a name, make sure you qualify yourself before making that decision. I know I should have gone to another school because it offered more classes that were suited to my interests. I don't really regret going to Cornell, I just know that I would have enjoyed taking classes that held my interest more.

Good Luck!!
