Since the social scene seems to be getting all of the attention, I'll have a go at it too.

Do you drink? No? Well, neither did I first semester and I had a blast. I have a number of friends who don't drink and are having the times of their lives. If you're embarrassed to socialize normally (sober, that is), then yes you're going to have a hard time meeting people if you don't drink, but that's because you're awkward to begin with. (And as a sidenote, there are plenty of awkward people here that have come together (Facebook group with 600 members: Hey…you're awkward)). Don't like frat parties? Then hang out with your friends in your dorm. Go to a play. Go get the monster tub at Ben & Jerry's with some pals. Go to the movies at Sarratt Cinema. There are myriad options and if you can't find something to do, it's because you're not looking hard enough.

If you have trouble making friends (this is where that awkward thing comes in again), join an extracurricular that involves a lot of time, like a club sport or ASB. You're basically guaranteed a group of friends then and, what's even better, they share at least one of your interests (or else they wouldn't be in that club…)!

I think all of these people talking about how vapid and superficial everyone is should open their eyes. Or just meet up with each other and be emo.
