Duke offers you a great education and top notch professors that really know their stuff. The only negative about this university/community is the high racial tension and racism that exists not only in the immediate area around campus and throughout Durham, but throughout other cities in the Triangle including Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Cary. This is due to several factors, southern culture, economic and social class of African Americans, and the ideals of locals. As an African American female, I sometimes feel as if I have taken a journey back into time as I have experienced racism throughout the Triangle in malls, clubs and bars in Raleigh and Chapel Hill, and such things as service at restaurants in Cary since I have been here.
