University of Phoenix is a great choice for working adult professionals with industry experience (BSIT program specifically). I've been working in IT for nearly 20 years and feel the coursework provides an appropriate basis for understanding key concepts, terms, and technologies. Just like any educational experience, be it university, workshops, self-learning, it's all in what you make of the material. Is it possible to skate by with marginal grades and graduate? Probably, but you can find that in every single college and university in the country, UoPhx is no different. Aside from a few team learning experiences that were suboptimal, this has been very rewarding.

One key differentiator in the program worth mentioning is that most of the students are working professionals, as are the instructors. There is a huge advantage in this because very often you learn just as much from peers relaying their experiences as you do from the material. Specifically - how to apply these key learnings in Fortune 500 companies with peers from companies like Boeing, Verizon, Bellsouth, IBM and others. No traditional university full of 19 year olds without a clue has this advantage.

Lastly, you really should do some critical self analysis before enrolling in Univ. of Phoenix. If you are not a motivated learner that is disciplined enough to focus on school to derive the maximum value, seek a degree elsewhere. Nobody is going to hold your hand, not the staf, not the counselors, but there certainly is a worthwhile program being offered if distance learning is an option. If I can do it while holding down a very demanding fulltime job (with intermittent US and international travel I might add), raising 3 kids with my wonderful wife, anybody sufficiently motivated and intelligent can do the same thing.
