UT was the biggest waste of time and money in my life. The biggest mistake ever. First off the campus looks way better in pictures. It is situated on the disgusting cocodile infested Hillsborough River. As a freshman, the second week I came home to my dorm which was by the river- police cruisers were surrounding the area, police boats were in the river, and helicopters were hoverivng above. I watched them pull out a DEAD BODY of a murder victim that got thrown into the river and caught under one of UT's Crew Docks. That tells you a little bit about the saftey of the surrounding area. They filtrate the nasty river water into the sprinkler system for the campus grounds, so all you can smell is nasty sewage water. This is NOT a big party school contrary to what people say..on campus at least. Off campus is a different story. Ybor city is minutes from capus and the hot spot to go on weeknights. I got sick of it the first week I was there because its the SAME clubs over and over. Drug use is a problem. I've witnessed people doing cocaine in their rooms, smoking TONS of weed, mushrooms, etc. Greek life is a joke. There are 3 sorirotys taken seriously- the other two are made fun of. Take it from one who went Greek- it's so superficial and i've never seen so many "sisters" stab eachother in the back. It's just a way to form cliques because frat and sorirty houses are not allowed in UT so go Greek if you want to have a group of people to ride in the taxis with to a club…other wise stay away. Tampa itself is a dump, UT is in a horrible section and often homeless people wander onto the campus. Walking home at 4am one night from another dorm my guy friend and I were followed by a homeless man pushing a shopping cart. Security tries to keep that problem under control but there is 1 security post in the middle of campus and no gates so anyone can get in at any enterance. I hav eno idea why they wouldnt have a security post at an enterance. To sum it up I would NEVER go to this school again. I would rather be a college drop out than have to go through the touture of this "University". If you like seeing the same faces over and over again, upper middle class abercrombie yuppies contemplating excidely whether to go to "Club One" or "Club Two", and feeling like you can't walk campus alone in the daytime without looking over your shoulder- UT is the school for you!!!!
