I grew up in the area, so I always considered HACC to be the equivalent of "Grade 13" rather than a place to gain a genuine undergraduate degree. For that reason, it took me several years of working in the "real world" before I decided to go back and begin work on my AS.

The truth is I was quite wrong. Though the first semester or two was pretty well saturated with a younger crowd who really didn't value their education, once I hit my major classes things really started to smooth out and brighten up. Not only were most of the instructors intelligent, interesting, and devoted to their work, but I learned a few things about myself in the process.

I'd sincerely recommend anyone who lives in the area who wants to not only learn a new skill but also develop a solid work ethic seriously consider getting a degree from HACC.

HACC is a great school. I attend the Lancaster Campus. It's kept very clean. The instructors are awesome and all of mine got to know my name and me as a person. However the administration and my advisor always treat me as a number. Whenever I see my advisor in the hallway she doesn't know who I am and she never told me how many years I would be at HACC...she never helped me look towards the future. I was going to be there for three and a half years for an associates degree. Apart from the instructors, HACC doesn't have much else to offer. There are clubs to get involved in, but they're not advertized much and I wouldn't even know where to go to join one. The classes I were taking were either very hard, or extremely easy. Hardly anyone makes friends. People greet their classmates beginning after about two-three weeks of classes because after that semester you're lucky if you see them again so no one really wants to take the time to become friends. During the 'busy times' it's very hard to find a decent parking spot. And the security officers love to give parking tickets.
Overall though HACC is a great school to get your general classes done with, and it's very affordable. The instructors (most of them) really do love teaching and take the time to know you individually. Even though anyone can get in, the Lanc. campus is I think second in the state for nursing. I was in the Rad Tech programme which is very similar and it's very hard. Great school though. I'd recommend it to anyone.

HACC was a great experience for me; I was well prepared to transfer to a 4-year university. All of my teachers were helpful; if you do your part, they are very happy to help you out. Many of HACC's professors are adjuncts--people with real-life experience who are there to teach because they want to, not necessarily because they have to. The campus is beautiful and the facilities are very good.

HACC cost me a lot of money. The human services degree program is a dead end! HACC's business policies are unethical and poor at best.
