 | Quite Bright | Although the campus is absolutely breathtaking, if you intend to get a degree from the school of engineering, pick another school. This department is full of arrogant, impatient instructors who are more concerned with when they will get home for the day than how their students are doing. The administration also often makes things such as enrolling in classes, paying bills, and even graduating on time much more complicated than they need to be, and the school's website is an absolute joke to boot. Never have I had more trouble getting a site to function correctly. Even though I have made some amazing friends here, I cannot remember a time when I was happy with my decision to attend UCSC. | Campus Aesthetics: A+, Faculty Accessibility: F | | | |

| | Bright | | To start, ucsc is beautiful. The forest, mountains and beach is breathtaking. Walking around campus can be a workout as there are hills everywhere. The public transport with buses can be a headache but 70% of the time you'll be fine. Partying here exists, but smoking weed is just as common as drinking. Just youtube ucsc 420 to see what I'm talking about. You won't randomly come across parties, you want to be social and outgoing if you want to network and have a good time. Santa Cruz is way too liberal for its own good, but that's my honest opinion and I'm no stereotypical ucsc hippie. Protesting is cool but extremely disorganized. There are hundreds of clubs to check out so do yourself s favor and join something, chances are you won't regret it. Everyone is chill, friendly and laidback. That means that it's not cutthroat in every class with grades so get to know people and make study groups, borrow textbooks, old exams, etc. Study hard on your own, master the material and own the exams. Getting A's in classes is a great accomplishment and it's on you so make it happen. Yeah it's redicously expensive, so while youre here do your best and succeed. Get your diploma and get to work with your goals, I wouldn't stay in Santa Cruz after graduating unless I had a job or graduate work to do. The hippie stereotype is half true, as you'll see a lot of different people but just a few hippies. Keep an open mind, make your own opinions, be your own man but make educated decisions. | Campus Aesthetics: A+, Individual Value: D | | | |

| | Quite Bright | | I am bored to death studying at UCSC. I understand that most people research and visit the school before they are admitted.. I made the huge mistake of blindly applying & accepting, assuming a grand college experience because it's a UC school! Here's what I don't like... There is absolutely no nightlife. You have to take a bus to get between classes & the campus is super spread out. Moreover, just to get downtown or go ANYWHERE you need to wait for a bus that takes 20-30 min to get there! I feel bored and depressed here because mostly I find myself sitting at my apartment. That's b/c the school is in the middle of the forest :( A lot of people here are nerds and hippies. So many guys don't shave. And the people here have no style. I admit it took a while to find a group of friends to hang out with & party with. if you're the outdoorsy type, however, you'll love it. Trees & grass & deer everywhere! I however can't stand it. Also, the art department here is very small. The art teachers don't actually teach anything in the classes (I expected to learn techniques) & just give you the assignment. I was unsure of a lot of things, such as where I wanted to go & what I wanted to do before I came here. I know definitely not here! | Campus Maintenance: A, Social Life: F | | | |
