| Super Brilliant | STAY AWAY from the Career Center. That group is the most sadistic group of people I've ever met. They are condescending, mean, and stupid. No one should take their advice. Ever. Do yourself a favor. You will save money, time, and sanity by not using those idiots to help with your graduate school planning. Get private counseling if you need help. They don't like students and they don't care if you get a hit by a bus on the way out of their office. | | Jun 04 2010 | 5th Year Female --

| Super Brilliant | The Linguistics Department at the time was primarily oriented toward the theoretical rather than the applied, which meant lots of armchair fun, but not a lot of preparation for other than going on to be a professor...there were a few exceptions, John Ohala had a sense of the real world, Leanne Hinton did hands on work with "rescue lingustics". Nowadays you can get employed at Google as a linguistic. But when I graduated, I had no options to use my training, except very generally in terms of quantitative and qualitative analysis. | Starting Job: research coordinator, Preparedness: C-, Reputation: A | | |

I really enjoy living in Berkeley. Some people say it's "ghetto" (hate that word) and unsafe, but that hasn't been my experience. I enjoy living in Berkeley more than I enjoy attending Cal. If I didn't like the city, my experience here would be miserable. My major (Media Studies) is an absolute joke. There is no practical application and, even worse, the course material often goes off-track and doesn't even seem to apply to the subject matter, which is frustrating and weird. The faculty ranges from great (Turner) to ridiculous (Levina). If I didn't receive so much financial aid and actually had to pay tuition out of my own pocket, I would be LIVID that I paid for this level of "education". I've heard that other majors are better but, if you are a Media Studies major, proceed with caution. | Campus Aesthetics: A+, Education Quality: C | | | |

| Not so bright | I am not filling out anything but the comment section, so I hope it goes through. I wanted to say that living in the Co-ops was really helpful for me in Berkeley. And then afterwards I found great off-campus housing by searching hard for great friendly homes. Finding the right place to live makes a huge difference, and is worth spending a couple weeks on if you have a place to stay in the meantime. | Starting Job: research coordinator, Preparedness: C-, Reputation: A | | | |
