| Quite Bright | SJSU is one of the worst public universities in the state. If you have a decent GPA go somewhere like Cal Poly or San Diego State. The only reason why someone would attend SJSU is if they got into the nursing program, engineering, business, etc... one of those programs that isn't really associated with the rest of the school. I wish I had just gone to DeAnza my first two years and transferred to a real University but hindsight is 20/20 and now I have to find work to pay off student loans. | Campus Maintenance: C+, Education Quality: F | | | |

| Super Brilliant |
I started at SJSU Fall 2009. I came from southern California. I was looking for a good college experience by moving far away. It is about 5 and a half hours from my home. I Lived on campus in the freshman suites. I was NOT satisfied. I had room mates who were EXTREMELY rude. They never repected any of the girls. These girls were very open about the fact that they were minorities and any white people can go _____ themselves. Every time anyone in the suite had a problem, the RAs did NOTHING. Even the building supervisor never did anything about our on going problems. The social life DOES NOT EXIST! Guys are not allowed in ANY parties unless they are part of a frat. I am not joking when i say they are not allowed into ANY of them. They check IDs and Frat/Sorority lists to see if you are qualified. A lot of the time, girls are let into any of the parties. There is NO alcohol at the parties either. Unless you act promiscuously toward the frat boys. The girls and guys who do have alcohol are usually very drunk and a lot of times throwing up. The Frat guys are ugly and arrogant. The sororities are VERY separated. Girls are mad if you do not join their sorority, and will purposely make you feel isolated at events/parties.
The classes were basic. Nothing interesting, just lecture, notes, papers and tests . I wrote what seemed like a million papers at san jose.
By the way. When did they expect me to Graduate? 2015. I started in 2009. Thats 6 years!!!!!!!!!
Take my advice, look at how many students do not return their next year of college at SJSU.
I knew people from my highschool who got a 2.5 GPA, barely had the requirements met to go to San Jose, and got in. This is not an impressive school.
If you will be looking for a JOB when you arrive, think again. Jobs are impossible to find in this city. I never found one, even though i have an excellent resume and great experience.
This is a commuter school. Once you get here, everyone already has friends. You will NOT meet people in your classes. The only way to meet people is through the dorms, or joining a sorority/frat, which i highly reccoment against. They are expensive, around $1200-$1800 a semester. At this school. The philanthropy (community service) they do is a joke. They are least concerned about their duty to the community. I did meet a few nice people along the way and through the sorority I joined while I was there, but overall, I was unhappy the majority of the time. It was not a good experience. I left feeling like a failure after one semester. However, it was not worth it there. If I could take it all back, I would. I had the opportunity to go to a UC school. Not berkely or anything, but a few of the easier ones to get into, and I denied it thinking I would get the same education for less at a Cal State. I sincerely urge you to realize that you get what you pay for. College and your education are worth investing in. | Collaboration/Competitive: B, Useful Schoolwork: F | | | |

| Bright | Regardless of what anyone says, San Jose State University has both pros and cons. It really depends on your department and the amount of effort you put into the school. For instance, SJSU is a good school for Engineering. In fact, they are pretty well known for their engineering program. You are in the heart of the Silicon Valley and your opportunities are endless. For their school of Journalism and Mass Communications (which include Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations, etc.) the program is quite exceptional. The work you do is very applied (not just reading and taking tests) and their are great student organizations to help you get involved in your career. The school of Business (includes Finance, Operations Management, Accounting, Marketing, etc.) is not the best. Don't get me wrong, you can learn something, but only from books and power point slides. Your class sizes are very large, most of your professor are hard to understand, and you are just a number, so don't plan on getting much help with anything (including advising). I would suggest talking to a student from whatever department you are interested in. The students will tell you exactly how it is. The school overall is very large, so if you cannot get a class because they are overcrowded, do not be surprised. You are pretty much just another student there, but there are a lot of programs out there for you, if you're interested. For students who are confused about whether or not you should come to this school, you just have to consider whether or not you are willing to put in the effort to get the most out of this school. The school does not cater to you, you must cater to it. If you can put in that effort, then you will enjoy it here. If you want school spirit, then go to the Associated Student events and get it. If you want help, make an appointment with an adviser ahead of time, for some help. Realize though, at this school, you are your form of help and support. | Campus Aesthetics: A, Individual Value: D- | | | |

| Bright | I AM WARNING YOU, DO NOT GO TO SJSU!!!!!!!!!!!! ok, so i am freshman at sjsu and could not be more excited to transfer this fall!!! this school has no spirit, it's a small disgusting run-down campus, IT IS A HUGE COMMUTER SCHOOL and NOBODY wants to be here!! if u want a real college experience, DO NOT go here!! this school hates white people and i feel that there is very little social life on campus. As far as academics go, you don't have to work extremely hard in a class to pass. Just go to office hours or talk to a professor after class and pretend like you "care." Now about the surrounding city!! yay!! San jose is kind of a dump, actually its really a dump, but there are some nice places to eat, a nice movie theater, and you can go up to san francisco on the weekend which is fun!! Living in the suites may seem nice, but when your toilet constantly gets clogged and overflows and when your shower wont drain properly and the dirty shower water leaks all over your carpet, it is not fun. But other than that, the suites are pretty nice to live in. As far as parties go, i have had some fun at apartment and frat parties, but they really aren't that great here. The food is pretty good, but the overall vibe of the students at this school is very negative. And btw, the dance department sucks!!! I have met some cool people here, but overall, I can not wait to leave SJSU!!! so take my advice and DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!! | Faculty Accessibility: B, Education Quality: F | | | |
