SFSU is located in the amazing city of San Francisco. There is SO much to do in this city and MUNI runs directly in front of the school. Also, there is a free shuttle service to and from BART that runs directly in front of the school as well.

DO NOT attend this school if you are close-minded! All the students who attend this school are very open-minded. There are several gay, lesbian, and transgendered students as well as students from all races & walks of life. If you are right-winged or extremely religious, this is not the school for you either... you would not like it. This is THE school to attend if you like diversity and meeting people different from yourself.

There's not really anything bad about SFSU. Hmm... I guess they could offer more classes? But then again ALL universities would be better off offering more classes regardless of the number they already offer.

Overall, San Francisco State University has excellent quality courses as well as a diversified and cultured group of students. The teachers are EXCELLENT (many have PHDs from Ivy League schools) and the research opportunities are ENDLESS! Excellent value for the price as well as many opportunities! Definitely a great school!

The SFSU theatre department rocked. Due to budget brutalizations the lecturers have been cut, the class offerings diminished and your brilliant professors now have class sizes three times larger than what they were.

That being said, SFSU has many fabulous opportunities as an undergrad. If you are an actor you will have to take technical theatre which (if you utilize it) can prepare you for real world production jobs. If you are a director/ producer you have opportunities for student productions through the Player's Club, Brown bag workshop course, playthings and self-produced showcases. As a performer you have instructors who can teach you highly stylized classical technique, and method naturalism with viewpoints dovetails.

I would have taken seven years to finish class here if I could have. Every class with Mohammad Kowsar, Bill Peters, Barbara Damashek, Yuki Goto, or Brian Thorstenson I didn't take is one that I wish I could have.

If you are ready to swim against the tides of a fiscally underappreciated university you can rock the opportunities.

SFSU is overall a decent school. Right now state budget cuts are heavily affecting the amount of classes offered and the overall quality of the school, but thats not the school's fault. However there are plenty of things that the school does have control over that are terrible. Mainly, housing. DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT live on campus. It is painfully expensive, you can find plenty of apartments off campus for a fraction of what you would be paying on campus. If you are an incoming freshmen, I can see the appeal of living on campus. But for transfer students, which I am, DO NOT DO IT! I was promised that i would get to live with students my own age (21 and up) and instead i was placed with all freshmen AND I am paying much more money than i would be if i were in an apartment off campus. I have become so frustrated with the Housing department I have tried to devise every way to get out of my contract with them to move early. The Housing staff is extremely frustrating, unwilling to work with students to give them better housing options. I also tried to get rid of my meal plan with not luck. That costs me about $2,000 for the year on food I do not eat because the dining center serves what i can only describe as elementary school cafeteria food. Frankly, I see why everyone lives on campus for one year and runs away screaming, never coming back.

i hate to say it, but i'm a graduate from SFSU. you know how sometimes when you go somewhere, you just, kind of get "stuck"? well, that's what happened to me. This is a very small campus, with over 40,000 students. 90% that are comuters. i found it hard to find a girl you like and take her back to your place when she has to catch the bart train back to Fremont. No social life. The only thing is the pub at the student center which never has any legit people...all asians and their video games. the food is horrible, and hardly any of it. the reason i got stuck was because that city is so expensive, that your whole paycheck goes to school fees and rent. it's hard to save enough to move onward to somewhere better. I made a quite a lot of friends, but it didn't make up for the horrible weather and tiny campus. i think the school spends more money on keeping the campus beautiful rather than expanding it and making it more enjoyable for college students. my degree was extremely easy. i hardly went to class because it was so self explanatory, then again, i got a degree in radio and tv, how hard can it be right? i suggest do not go to this school. too small, no social life, and honestly, 80 percent of the students here are unattractive. they must go where the weather goes. i'll admit though, the city is awesome. tons to do and interesting places to go.
