Oxy is a great liberal arts college. If you are looking for a college that offers a major that connects directly to a career path(engineering, Pre-law, Communications/marketing), then Occidental is not a good choice. If you're looking for a great all around education that will enable you to think critically and challenge you intellectually, then Oxy is the place for you.

The general skills that I learned at Oxy help me in my work life, but my major did not lead directly to a career path. I'm of the opinion that a good liberal arts education is the best path to learning - Oxy exceeded my expectations.

Be ready to be challenged because Oxy is not an easy school.

Not so bright
Welll,,,,,, I live in Eagle Rock (which contrary to what people say is not a dump) and didn't even know about Oxy until Middle School in which since then I have had around 5 tours/shadowing days at Oxy before attending. It is very laid back place to be. Don't give in to the whole "Los Angeles" things. Los Angeles sucks. I would know. I lived here my entire life. I regret not going out of state. Actually sometimes I feel like driving off and never returning. I feel stuck here in LA like a person feels stuck in a small town. The academics are all right.

OXY is one of the most over rated college there is. Their elist attitude for a college that does not offer much is undeserving. Their graduation requirements is so stupid with a bunch of useless classes. 2 years of this, a year of that, etc. You graduate from OXY, good luck getting a job. You haven't master in anything including your own major because you are way too busy taking a little bit of everything. You become the expert of generality but don't know much on your major especially if your major is non liberal arts. Good luck with getting employed as an OXY graduate but you will have that elitest attitude though. They are excelling in fostering and nurturing you are so special because you got into OXY. Uum, the acceptance rate is 44%, basically if you have the bucks you get in.
