Hello to all Mudders, Our family needs to help our high school senior decide between MIT, Caltech and Harvey Mudd. We think that Harvey Mudd would be a better fit for her, but we know that a lot of what we get from all the schools is marketing. How will employers and graduate programs view the choice of undergrad program? Thanks for your help. Massachusetts Mom | | Mar 27 2010 | 1st Year Female --

| Super Brilliant | Absolute best undergraduate engineering/science program. However, this may lead to butting heads with idiotic PhD's who haven't heard of HMC. Turns out, though, you are on a very strong footing.... if you make yourself so. | Starting Job: Aerospace Engineer, Preparedness: A, Reputation: B- | | |

| Quite Bright |
I had friend at Harvey Mudd who was in the Marine Corps and was deployed to Iraq in 2003. I jokingly asked him which was harder, boot camp or Mudd. Suprisingly, he replied he didn't know.
My experience at Mudd is that it was hard. Very hard. I learned a LOT at Mudd and now am very sucessful in my career, but it was a somewhat brutal experience.
One thing to consider about Mudd before going- They sell very hard on the smallness of the school and the attention students get from faculty. This is true, students as a whole get far more attention then they would at a larger university. However, every student who gets in there would be a standout at most larger universities, which negates a large portion of the arguement for going to Mudd. But I'm still bitter about not getting to do research like 1/2 my peers, so you may want to ignore that. Getting to do extra-curriculars isn't as hard as people make it out to be. I did various varsity sports and student government activites and found I (mostly) had no problem with my studies. What really caused a lack of sleep was excessive watching of online TV shows and staying up/out all night with friends. Like all education, you get back what you put into classes. At Mudd, you are guarenteed to put in a lot, so you get a lot back. | Education Quality: A+, Surrounding City: C- | | | |
