I enjoyed many things about my education in CIIS's Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program, primarily the open-minded, curious, compassionate perspective of many of my feat CIIS is somewhat unique in that it combines traditional Western psychology with Eastern philosophies. This was the main factor that attracted me to CIIS. Also, at the time I applied, it was an APA-accredited program. However, the school has a number of problems, the primary one being that the PsyD program has lost its APA accreditation. This is unfortunate, and I hope they will regain it. (They are appealing.) That said, the school is not the most smoothly run. There were often problems with organization and administration. The rate of PsyD graduates getting prime internships and getting licensed is not as high as at some other schools. It's also very expensive, and I will be in debt a long, long time. At this point in my career, I am not sure the amount of debt I incurred will be worth it, given my school's reputation. However, I do value the experiences I had there and many colleagues I met. I grew so much as a person there. I also feel that my preparation as a therapist (soon to be licensed psychologist) was good. All in all, it has its pros and cons.

Having now completed the Masters Program in Somatic Psychotherapy, I understand much better why we use the word "master" for a graduate degree. This program has helped me to explore so many parts of myself that I feel prepared as a whole being for my career. And I hope it goes without saying that the somatics program is truly cutting edge.CIIS as a whole is a fabulously liberal, open-minded and relatively diverse culture. I am so proud to be a part of this community and I would absolutely recommend my program to prospective students.
